Vegetable gardening in your front or back yard is legal in Albuquerque and is strongly encouraged by the City. Your right to grow your food is protected here as part of a sustainability initiative. The City of Albuquerque is your best ally if a problem should occur with a neighbor. Explain politely that what you are doing is legal, and that the city's Department of Environmental Health can explain this to them.  Rain barrels and water collection systems are legal and highly encouraged. Small chicken flocks are legal. We are a green city, and the mayor and the city government are very proud of our efforts to produce food locally.
